YEGOG SERIES |
Established Series PCS, JYH 10 May, 1979 |
The Yegog series are members of the fine loamy, mixed, mesic family of Fluvaquentic Endoaquepts [Fluvic Gleyic Hydragric Anthrosols (Eutric) classified by WRB]. These soils have dark gray silt loam Ap horizons with brown mottles, black gravelly silt loam BAg horizons with brown mottles, black gravelly silt loam Bg horizons with dark yellowish brown mottles, and black gravelly silt loam BCg horizons with dark yellowish brown mottles. These soils are on local valleys from limestone schist of the Ogcheon system.
Typifying Pedon: Yegog silt loam-paddy rice (Colors are for moist soil).
Slope: 2-7%
Elevation: 132 m above m.s.l.
Soil moisture regime: Aquic
Soil temperature regime: Mesic
Parent material: Local alluvium from limestone schist
Diagnostic features: An ochric epipedon from a depth of 0 to 19 cm and a cambic horizon from a depth of 38 to 67 cm (An anthraquic horizon from a depth of 0 to 38 cm and a hydragric horizon from a depth of 38 to 67 cm by WRB).
Described by: Song, K. C., D. C. Noh, and B. K. Hyun, 26 March, 2013.

Morphological properties of typifying pedon. |
Ap - 0 to 19 cm. Dark gray (2.5Y 4/1) silt loam; common fine to medium prominent brown (7.5YR 4/4) mottles; structureless, puddled; sticky and plastic; common fine to medium roots; common fine to medium pores; common fine micas; 5% fine gravels; clear wavy boundary.
BAg - 19 to 38 cm. Black (5Y 2.5/1) gravelly silt loam; few fine prominent brown (10YR 4/3) mottles; weak coarse prismatic structure; firm, slightly sticky and plastic; thin patch clay cutans; few fine roots; few fine pores; few very fine micas; 15% gravels; gradual smooth boundary.
Bg - 38 to 67 cm. Black (2.5Y 2.5/1) gravelly silt loam; few fine distinct dark yellowish brown (10YR 3/4) mottles; weak coarse prismatic structure; slightly firm, sticky and plastic; thin patch clay cutans; few fine roots; common fine to medium pores; few very fine micas; 15% fine gravels; gradual smooth boundary.
BCg - 67 to 150 cm. Black (5Y 2.5/1) gravelly silt loam; few fine to medium distinct dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) mottles; weak coarse prismatic structure; slightly firm, sticky and plastic; thin continuous clay cutans; no roots; common fine to medium pores; few very fine micas; 20% gravels.
The typifying pedon has an ochric epipedon from a depth of 0 to 19 cm and a cambic horizon from a depth of 38 to 67 cm. It can be classified as Inceptisol. It has aquic conditions for some time in normal years in a layer at a depth between 40 and 50 cm from the mineral soil surface, and has a layer within 50 cm of the mineral soil surface, that has, on the faces of peds, 50% or more chroma of 2 or less, and has redox concentrations. Therefore it can be classified Aquept. It has endosaturation and keys out as Endoaquept. It has a slope of less than 25% and at a depth of 125 cm below the mineral soil surface, an organic-carbon content (Holocene age) of 0.2% or more and no densic, lithic, or paralithic contact within that depth. That can be classified as Fluvaquentic Endoaquept.
The typifying pedon has fine loamy particle-size class and mesic soil temperature class. Therefore it can be classified as fine loamy, mixed, mesic family of Fluvaquentic Endoaquept.
Type Location: About 100 meters south-west of Neulchi Reservoir, Gugwon Ri, Gunbug Myeon, Ogcheon Gun, Chungcheongbug Do (127o 36' 13.5'', 36o 20' 20.1'').
Range in Characteristics: These soils have ochric epipedons and cambic horizons. The solum thickness ranges from 100 to 150 cm and depth to hard rock is more than 3 meters. Reaction is slightly to medium acid. Base saturation is more than 60 percent. The gravel content ranges from 10 to 35 percent. These soils have very dark gray or dark gray silt loam Ap horizons with yellowish brown or strong brown mottles and dark gray or very dark gray gravelly silt loam or loam Bg horizons with strongbrown mottles.
Competing Series and Their Differentiae: These are the Imgog, Yugog, and Gangdong soils. The Imgog soils are derived acid crystalline materials. The Yugog soils are formed from gray shale geology. The Gangdong soils occur on alluvial plains and poorly drained.
Setting: The Yegog soils are on local valleys from limestone schist or phyllite of the Ogcheon system. The slopes range from 2 to 15 percent and dominant slopes are 2 to 7 percent.
Principal Associated Soils: These are the Jonggog soils in similar positions, the Namgog soils in higher upland positions, and the Banggog soils in higher colluvial positions.
Drainage and Permeability: Imperfectly drained; slow permeability; slow runoff.
Use and Vegetation: Used for rice paddy.
Distribution and Extent: On the Ogcheon system in Ogcheon, Boeun and Danyang Gun.
Series Established: Ogcheon Gun, Chungcheongbug Do, 1978. Revised, Ogcheon Gun, Chungcheongbug Do, 2013.
