INOG SERIES

Established Series

SYK, PCW, CYS

14 March, 2013

The Inog series are member of the fine, mixed, mesic family of Typic Udorthents [Haplic Regosols (Humic Dystric Siltic Transportic) classified by WRB]. These soils have dark gray silty clay ^Cp horizons, yellowish brown silty clay ^C1 horizons, very dark gray silty clay 2^C2 horizons. They are developed on river plains derived from dredged soils.

Typifying Pedon : Inog silty clay-rice (Colors are for moist soil).

  Slope: 0-2%

  Elevation: 2 m above m.s.l.

  Soil moisture regime: Udic

  Soil temperature regime: Mesic

Parent material: Disturbed original soils (about 50cm) over dredged soils

  Diagnostic features: No diagnostic features

  Described by: Sonn, Y. K., C. W. Park, and Y. S. Choi

Morphological properties of typifying pedon.

^Cp – 0 to 15 cm. Dark gray (10YR 4/1) silty clay; few extremely coarse faint clear dark gray (N 4/) and few fine to very coarse faint clear dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) mottles; structureless, massive; moderately sticky and very plastic; many very fine to fine rice roots; common very fine to fine pores; diffuse smooth boundary.

^C1 – 15 to 55 cm. Yellowish brown (10YR 5/8) silty clay; many extremely coarse prominent diffuse very dark gray (N 3/) mottles; structureless; very sticky and very plastic; common very fine rice roots; few very fine pores; diffuse irregular boundary.

2^C2 - 55+ cm. Very dark gray (N 3/ ) silty clay; common coarse to very coarse prominent diffuse yellowish brown (10YR 5/8) mottles; structureless; very sticky and very plastic; common very fine rice roots; few very fine pores.

The typifying pedon has no diagnostic horizons. It can be classified as Entisols. In suborder level has no characteristics, and can be classified Orthents. It has an udic soil moisture regime, and can be classified as Udorthents. Also it meets the requirement of Typic Udorthents.

The typifying pedon has fine particle-size class and mesic soil temperature class. Therefore it can be classified as fine, mixed, mesic family of Typic Udorthents.

Type Location: Ogjeong Ri, Donggang Myeon, Naju City, Jeollanam Do (126° 31' 38', 34° 54' 39'')

Range in Characteristics: Depth to bedrock is more than 2 meters. ^Cp horizons are dark gray silty clay. The ^C1 horizons are yellowish brown silty clay with 0 to 15% gravels or cobbles. The 2^C2 horizons are very dark gray silty clay.

Competing Series and Their Differentiae: The Inchang soils are associated.

Setting: The Inog soils occur in river plains. Slopes are dominantly 0 to 2 percent.

Principal Associated Soils: These are the Ingog, Indong, Inga, and Ingwan series. The Ingog soils have fine loamy over sandy texture. The Indong soils have fine loamy over sandy texture. The Inga soils have coarse loamy over sandy skeletal texture. The Ingwan soils have coarse loamy over sandy texture.

Drainage and Permeability: Somewhat poorly drained. Permeability is slow and runoff is moderate.

Use and Vegetation: These soils are usually planted to rice.

Distribution and Extent: The Inog soils are of small extent and are distributed in the river plain parts.

Series Established: Naju City, Jeollanam Do, 2013
